Steven Stuart from\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Friends<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"il\">of<\/span>\u00a0Essex &amp; London Homeless.<\/p>\n<p>Steven started the charity\u00a0<span class=\"il\">with<\/span>\u00a0his wife Cheryl in December 2016, and it all came about when Cheryl suggested an evening out in London.\u00a0 Steven thought that they might be going out\u00a0<span class=\"il\">for<\/span>\u00a0a theatre show or a meal &#8211; but the intention was to give out sleepless bags to the homeless.\u00a0 This led very quickly to it being a regular event and the formation\u00a0<span class=\"il\">of<\/span>\u00a0the new charity.<\/p>\n<p>The charity now has over 30 volunteers giving out food and clothes to homeless people.\u00a0 It runs two soup kitchens every week &#8211; one in Charing Cross every Wednesday evening giving out over 130 hot dishes, and one in Grays every Friday giving out over 40 hot meals.\u00a0 In addition both kitchens give out free sandwiches, cakes, drinks, soups, toiletries, clothes and sleeping bags to those who need them.<\/p>\n<p>The charity has no funding and relies totally on donations from their followers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and their website.\u00a0 They also have an Amazon wish list on their website and Facebook page, where people can choose what to donate.<\/p>\n<p>Steven&#8217;s interview\u00a0<span class=\"il\">with<\/span>\u00a0our Drive host Jo Bailey was fascinating as he explained how a little effort can go a long way, giving rise to the charity&#8217;s mantra\u00a0<span class=\"il\">of<\/span>\u00a0#kindnessiscontagious.<\/p>\n<p>You can hear Jo&#8217;s interview\u00a0<span class=\"il\">with<\/span>\u00a0Steven at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.phoenixfm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.phoenixfm.com&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1681204769196000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2MEeN-I-kOjlxI4aoRmqXP\">www.phoenixfm.com<\/a>\u00a0and the charity&#8217;s website is at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foelh.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.foelh.com&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1681204769196000&amp;usg=AOvVaw22KHTcD1_ERjVCBnyaSC-1\">www.foelh.com<\/a>.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a great local concern and if you can help in any way I am sure your efforts would be warmly appreciated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette We had the co-founder\u00a0of\u00a0a fantastic local charity in our studio &#8211;
